Memories of a Past Life
In Memories of a Past Life I explore the boundary between memory and material through a deeply personal act of reclamation. Using liquid emulsion, I printed a photograph of a chimney onto a stone. Both the image and object are drawn from the remnants of my great-grandfather's house, which was destroyed by fire. This stone, which once occupied a living space, now becomes a vessel for remembering. By printing the image of the chimney onto the stone it once supported, I attempt to preserve what was lost, while acknowledging that memory itself is incomplete and fragile, like the charred ruins that remain.
